Thousands of people living at the Old Fadama, an urban slum area in Accra, within the Odododiodioo Constituency, have been rendered homeless following a fire outbreak which destroyed over 800 structures and households on Tuesday dawn, 7th April 2020.

Reports indicate that massive fire has engulfed a huge section of the Old Fadama in Accra. Pictures captured of the incident shows the massive extent of the fire and how it has affected lots of the residents and businesses in the area. Several properties, running into thousands of Ghana Cedis have also been lost in the fire outbreak according to news reports from Joy News, UTV and other major media outlets. The victims, who are mainly head potters(kayayei), mechanics, carpenters, traders among others were unable to salvage any of their belongings.

Upon hearing about the unfortunate incident and it's effects on the residents in the community, the the Member of Parliament of  Constituency, Hon. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has on Tuesday, 9th of April 2020 presented items worth thousands of Ghana cedis to the victims of the fire outbreak to relieve them from the hardship which the unfortunate incident may have brought unto them, especially in the wake of the corona virus pandemic which has bedeviled us in this country. These items includes, several bags of 25KG of rice, large bags of maize, large bags of gari, several packs of mineral water,  cartons of cooking oil and hundreds of T-shirts to help them out of the devastation they may find themselves in as a result of the outbreak.

The donation was presented on behalf of the MP by his Constituency Executives, led by the Constituency Organizer and Former Assembly Member for the Kinka ElectoralArea Hon. Emmanuel Botchway.

The items were received by the Greater Accra Regional Dagomba Chief, Alhaji Sulley on behalf of the victims. He expressed gratitude to the MP and his team for coming to their aid in this difficult moments and  exhibiting a high level of leadership in a critical situation.

Alhaji Sulley also retreated the fact that, there's no division among the Dagomba and Kokomba people in the area, hence he sent a word of caution to people who preach such lies  to desist from that act.

The gesture by the MP brought a sigh of relief on the face of residents who gathered to share the items equally among themselves without ethnic or political discrimination.
